- Students will examine American historical issues from the WWII era through the Modern Day History. Topics to be covered are WWII, the Cold War, the Johnson and Kennedy Eras, Civil Rights, the Vietnam War, the Nixon Era, Reagan and Bush Conservatism, and Globalization. This class will involve a heavy emphasis on geography, projects, cooperative learning, critical thinking activities, policy debates, text assignments, and discussion. At the end of the trimester, all students will be expected to complete a final exam that assesses what has been learned in this course.
Students can expect to intensify their use of the writing process by writing several persuasive essays and a literary analysis essay. Grammar will be taught as a means to improve student writing. This course is also a chronological study of American Literature focusing on major American authors, styles, forms and ideas. Oral presentation skills will be emphasized.
- Drama One is a twelve week course designed to introduce various aspects of theater to beginning actors. Units will include topics such as improvisation, characterization, scene work, acting, publicity, play production, and planning for the future. This class connects directly with a student that loves creativity, hands-on work, and public speaking.
ACT Prep is a 12-week course designed to assist students with ACT preparation. Studies will focus on English, reading, mathematics, and science. Students will also work on test taking skills by completing practice problems in each area.
- This course is designed to further enhance the use of the writing process based on the Six Traits Writing Model. A final research paper and various timed responses should represent techniques learned from this model.This course is also a study of American Literature that focuses on major American authors, styles, forms, and ideas. Topics to be covered are the Age of Expansion, Progressivism, WWI, the Roaring Twenties, and the New Deal. This class will involve a heavy emphasis on position papers, projects, group work, critical thinking activities, debates, text assignments, and discussion. At the end of the trimester, all students will be expected to complete a final exam that assesses what has been learned in this course.
