• National Honor Society is a school based student recognition program.  Members meet rigorous academic, service, and leadership guidelines in order to become and remain active members.  NHS is involved in a number of community service projects during the school year.
  • In this course students will be reading various genres to analyze and construct examples of literary devices.  Students will read pieces such as novels, short stories, memoirs, plays, poetry, and nonfiction.  Students will continue to write such pieces as journals, literary analysis, compare-contrast, and persuasive essays over the literature.  Classroom discussion will frequently take place.  Grammar will continue to be taught as a means to improve student writing.  Students will often be expected to complete required reading assignments outside of class.

  • This course will heavily emphasize the writing process, as students write multiple pieces, including journals, persuasive and descriptive essays, and responses to literature.  Career exploration and public speaking will be integrated into the semester with an emphasis on research and creating a formal research paper.  Grammar and peer editing skills will be taught as a means to improve student writing.  The course also includes an introduction to high school reading component.

  • This course is designed to further enhance the use of the writing process based on the Six Traits Writing Model. A final research paper and various timed responses should represent techniques learned from this model.This course is also a study of American Literature that focuses on major American authors, styles, forms, and ideas. Oral presentation skills will be emphasized. Grammar will be taught as a means to improve student writing.
